Better IMO to remove the motor from fan and case-half, and lube it properly. It has big felt pads at each end to hold oil. It's a minor nuisance to get the motor out, but after you've done all that to get there, you'll hardly notice. Whether it makes sense to put in an old used motor without removing and oiling *it* is not clear to me -- by rights it should be just as dried out as the one you're replacing.
