Hi George, Must be something to do with Grand Rapids! I was traveling home from GR on monday night and when evening came, I hit the switch for the headlights and nothing but the running lights came on. I could make the high beams come on with the stalk switch if I held it, but otherwise nothing. Hmmm.. I says... After checking the obligatory fuse and finding nothing wrong , I went to phase II. Having not only the required Leatherman, but also a $10.00 multimeter and a Bentleys: it came down to the switch. Took about a half hour to carefully dis-assemble and clean the switch and I was back on the road. I always carry my Leatherman. Every vehicle I have has a cheap multimeter and ,yes, I'm even known to have either a battery charger or jumper cables in them. This is not to advertise my prowess but rather to emphasize that we are a different bunch of automobile lovers. With a little simple preparedness, we can greatly reduce our chances of being at the mercy of someone else. Chances are they will never care for your vehicle as much as you do and even if you do have to do something twice to get it right, you are still money ahead. I managed to completly skip the fun of getting towed in the middle of the night, spent the night in a motel and get to buy my family a couple of meals that weren't in the budget. Thank all of you that have added to my knowledge of my beloved Vanagons by contributing to this list . And also, thank all of you that think your questions are somehow stupid but ask them anyhow. Your questions allow the others to see what is really going on and may eventually happen to them.
