Thanks to all of you who responded to my quest to find the source for the
blinking oil light and buzzer above 2000 rpm. I found the solution to the
puzzle: a bad connection between the flat multiconnector in the dash and
the printed circuit. (The oil pressure control module is actually behind
the speedometer.) 

Replacing the instrument cluster with one from another vanagon (mine)
helped me to further encircle the problem. I measured the continuity on the
printed circuit by following all leads to their source. Then I discovered
that the third connector (facing forward from left) was a little dirty. A
little bit of scraping, reconnection, test and voilà the buzzer was quiet. 

I hope this will help someone else sometime.

P.S. This will also answer the question asked under the subject heading
"1986 Syncro Crew Cab 1.9 L". In case someone else was wondering, I already
told him that his engine is a 2.1L Digifant.....
