Hi, im Derek, i just bought an 84 vanagon westfalia, beiing i loved the style and usability of the whole thing, it only cost 600 dollars, but i learned the reasons why after i brought it home, being i was a little rash when i bought it.  the engine burns oil an leaks it and leaks even more coolant(this may be from gaskets or from the reserve tank, i dont know), and sputters while idiling, which sounds kind of weak,.  the original owner bought it new and ran it out of oil at like 60 some thousand miles and had the engine rebuilt.  it now says 186,000 miles. i have only put like 20 miles on it myslef, most of that was driving it home, it didnt get hot or anything, and the coolant light did not come on, nor any other warnings.  could some one please give me some ballpark figures of how much it would cost to have a foreign car mechanic rebuild the engine to a good running state?  also what kind of money would i have to invest to get the crummy exhaust replaed?  also on the drivers side up in front the stabilizer link is broken(looks to have been that way for a while) and has nearly destroyed the brake line going to that brake, what kind of money would i be charged to replace the link and fix the line?  Yet another also, the propane tank is rusted out, what kind of money for a used one?  i can replace that myslef, also wher could i get the faucet assembly/ i accidentally broke it:) everything else seems to be okay, just aobut all the mechanics are messed up.  anyhelp you guyscan provide would be of very good use.
