I suddenly developed a loud beating / jumbling marbles / gravelly
sound on my 1982 vanagon diesel westfalia.

Lucky me, it's not a transmission noise as I had feared, but the
muffler bracket beating against the right side engine support beam.

Why?

The large bolt which attaches the engine mount to the engine (at the
oil pan) had unscrewed.  The bolt is still there, bolt threads
*appear* to be ok (hard to tell given its position) but access to the
bolt head is obstructed by the engine mount rubber and heavy welded
portions of the mounting bracket.

The bentley manual is (once again) of absolutely no help with this.
The manual doesn't contain a diagram (exploded or otherwise) of the
parts in question or even anywhere remotely close.

I'm assuming I will have to remove the rubber bushing on the bearing
bar to get access to the bolt head.  Any gotchas in this?  Once out,
will it be a bear to get back in?  I guess I'll have to use a floor
jack to (carefully!) lift the motor back up into position so I can
get the bolt back into place.  Did the bolt have a nut on the other
end (which has fallen off now), or does it go into a welded-on nut?
