This is for John Brush - Re: Clinking noise in rear wheel. Several years ago, after having made a change in hub caps, (I have an '84 Westy which was equipped with plastic wheel covers) to metal ones, I was way back near the Pecos Bill wilderness in New Mexico. I heard the same noise, just like a marble or more accurately, a bunch of marbles. I was certain that I had a bad bearing, but to my relief I discovered that it was the structure of the wheel cover itself and the way it is attached to the wheel, by friction. I still have the same wheel covers, and they still clink at slow speeds (1-3 mph) but I have gotten used to them. Your paroblem may be completely different, but you might remove your wheel covers and see if the problem goes away. Dave Crossman dmc+@pitt.edu '84 Westy Escorial Green 285,000 K |
