Howdy - just took out the front speakers in my '85 Westy last week - bought the critter last month and both front speakers were "dead." Popped off upper front panel with hands, carefully pulled back part way, unscrewed speaker, pulled out speaker to disconnect wires and part of one wire came out - it had split from all the opening/closing of the doors. This was the case for both speakers, with both of the passenger speaker wires being split. Replacing the speaker wire on the right hand side was easy, just pull out the glovebox. Left side was trickier, but problm was solved by removing instrument cover and dropping wire down left side then stringing remaining across to radio. Now, I've got both front speakers working. But, alas, they sound like a cheap AM radio (They are the original German ones, and the rear ones, being apparently the same things, are lousy sounding also). Anybody know what replacements will fit inside the plastic speaker ring? |
