As a comment in regards to parking "besides another Vanagon", I always find myself parking next to another Vanagon after finding one in any parking lot. I've also found the reverse to be true in that returning to my Vanagon, I have on many occasions found another Vanagon parked to mine when there were none when I initially parked.
