This idea just came to mind and I don't know if it's do-able, but if each state DMV would make available some statistics it might be possible to find out how many vanagons are registered in each state. This would give the list some idea how many there are in the USA. Not sure what it would take to come up with that info, but every state's DMV has the info. Just whether or not it can be extracted from them is the question.
