Subject: Herguth Oil Analysis
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

Volks -

I just got my Herguth Oil Analysis back for my '87 Westy with 165,000 miles on it.

It runs well, except for disappointing gas mileage, but I really wanted to know what sort of shape the bottom end is in, and this seemed like the best way to find out. Fortunately, it came back with all normal readings, so it looks like I am good for a few more miles.

Someone mentioned that it might be interesting to compare readings, so here is what I got.

Any comments?

Total Base 1.54 Vis@100 Deg C 12.31 % Soot <0.1 Abs. Oxid 7 Water % FTIR <0.1 Abs Sulf <2 Percent Fuel <2.0 Percent Glycol <0.1

Metals ----------------

Iron 14 Aluminum 2 Chromium 1 Copper 9 Lead 7 Tin 1 Nickel 2 Silver <1 Silicon 3 Sodium 15 Boron 13 Zinc 1067 Phosphorus 770 Calcium 985 Magnesium 356 Barium <1 Molybdenum 3 Vanadium <1

The only one that is even getting close to a warning level is Nickel at 2. The warning level is 3 with a maximum of 5.

Haven't got the bill yet, but it should be about $25. Their web site is - http://www.herguth.com/
