Subject: 86-91 Rear Heater Leak
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Hello all, I am a 'new' resubscriber. I have been on the list twice before but due to time and enjoyment of my vanagon, Bergner, I haven't been able to stay on the list. But I am back! I am mainly back because I am coming across a problem that I have had since I bought it a year ago July 1st and 25k miles!(currently at 196.8K!) The problem is that the rear heater core is leaking and needing to be fixed. I noticed my coolant light going on after only about 75 miles! I didn't feel anything under the seat next to the heater, where the problem was before. So I was thinking bad thoughts about possible head gasket leakage! But today I say that the overlying carpet was wet and that coolant was leaking out the front of the heater?! I guess it found a new way out. I thought I had the valve closed but I guess it wasn't. I don't have the money or the need to replace the heater core now. I want to bypass the rear heater. From previous list subscription I remember that it required a little bit of a trick to it. That is which hose to clamp, take off first, wether the system has to be bled etc. . . I remember somebody had a web page how to do this. Where is it? OR how do I go about fixing this. Any help would be greatful as I do not want any rust and more smells froming in my baby. Thanks in advance and I look forward to being on the list for another couple of weeks before I call bergner home for 6-8 weeks!

have fun, ADAM '87 Wolfy
