I have put in quite a few .77 4th gear sets during rebuilds and have yet to have a customer say anything but "cool, I like it". Even here in the Pac NW where we have a hill or two, the jump from 3rd to 4th is tolerable and if you are gonna go up a mountain pass, you are going to be in 3rd anyway. Even a 2WD Westy complete with mega lotsa stuff stored everywhere has no problem pulling the minor hills. The 500 RPM drop on the highway far outshadows the occasional need to downshift.
