Sorry, this isn't on my Vanagon, but on my Golf. But since I'm sure they're wired the same, it may help someone with their Vanagon =) I put Euro-spec Hella Golf IV style lights in my 98 Golf III. I took them apart and painted the surrounds, and turned the marker or city light position into a signal light, and drilled the reflector and moved the city light there. I put 5W (?) signal light bulbs in the old marker position (required some clearancing) as a signal light. Now for the problem... I wired my city lights to a constant power so they are on whenever the ignition is on. I am running the signal light off the previous signal light circuit. The old running light circuit is unused in the front. When my headlights are off, everything works tickety-boo. But when I turn my headlights on, my signal lights blink double time. Now, I assume that the car is sensing that the marker lights is missing (well, it thinks it's just burnt out). My question - does anyone know a way around this? Can I put a resistor in the circuit to take the place of the marker light (and if so, how big?). The only other way I can really see is to re-connect the original dual filament bulb and hide it behind the bumper or something, but I'd rather not. Cheers!
