List members have complained about this problem for quite some time and to date as far as I know, no one has discovered the source of the noise. I've had the same problem for the past five years ('84 Westphalia in Toronto). I believe the source of the noise to be the U-Joint in the shift linkage to the transmission. The joint has two c-clips & two pins holding it in place.

Remedy-: 1. Remove two c-clips 2. Push pins out as far as possible (2/3 out) 3. Liberally coat pins & cylinders with grease 4. Replace pins & c-clips 5. Coat entire joint with grease

After doing this in mine, the clicking sound disappeared & hasn't been heard on a 2500 mile trip I took last week.

This list is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Keep it up.
