A working jack that fits your lift points.
A lug wrench
Lug nuts that you are able to remove with above wrench (test before you go)
Spare oil and filter
spare fuel filter
fire extinguisher
I usually carry one jack stand, too.


I always carry a lot more than that on trips, but that's just me.


I know there are several "toolkit" pages around--I believe linked to
the vanagon.com site?  Also try searching the archives for "tool kit"
(Welcome back, gerry!).
