Dear list-genuises(you know who you are) , as I was savoring some recent comment from a friend about my talents and abilities in the Vanagon world, I drilled into my front heater core (ouch)! Trying to pop-rivet the heater valve cable bracket back on the housing - It never crossed my mind that the heater core was on the other side. Brilliant, eh? I just want to spare any of you geniuses from the same heartbreak. The bracket is easily pop-riveted on AFTER removing the heater core. At thought at least you should know.
