Herr Kapitan, Replacing only a section of rusty brake line falls into the same area of false economy as replacing just a section of exhaust pipe. If one piece fails, the rest of the system is probably not too far behind. It's a major PITA, but I would highly recommend that you bite the bullet & replace all the metal lines while you are under there. Outside of being a dirty, nasty job with crud falling in your face all the time, there's no real talent required, just some patience.
