Alan, first you need to determine if your actually loosing coolant and if
the motor is actually overheating.
Check the main coolant tank fluid level. Under normal circumstances it
should be full right up to the top. No air space !
If the engine is overheating it will be obvious. Steam/vapor will be
rising from it.
The temp sensor flashing light indicates coolant level. When it is
flashing the coolant level in the main tank is too low. If the coolant level
in the tank is not low and the light is flashing then either the sensor in
the tank is bad (sensor is right on top of the tank and is common to failure)
or the coolant sensor light control unit is malfunctioning (another common
problem) it's located in the fuse box under your dash. It is one of the
plug-in square boxes, I don't recall which one off hand but look in your
Bentley and you'll find it's number.
The main coolant tank cap could be the culprit also. The valve in it
could be kaput and allowing coolant to go back and forth to the overflow tank
when it's not supposed to. When the main tank is full and the engine is
running a the coolant system become pressurised and the cap is supposed to
not allow coolant out. It should only allow coolant in from the overflow
tank when there is need. The overflow tank need to have coolant or air will
be sucked in if the main system needs coolant. And if the main system is in
need of coolant then it is leaking out somewhere.
Hope this helps track down your problem and get's you not the road to an
adventure next weekend. Good luck.
Cheers
