These are interesting looking mudflaps on the above site Robert found. But
they are different than the SA mudflaps I got from James Cohen. The ones
pictured on the above site look to be a bit dressier with the VW logo and all
and a bit more streamlined. I have a SA brochure for the 1999 Microbus and
Caravell (both the Vanagon) and it shows the type of mudflaps I got from
james on the Microbuses. The Caravelle is a dressed up vanangon and has no
mudflaps--go figure.
To try and clear things up, but more than likely just to muddy the waters a
bit more, the mudflaps I have are more tough looking than the ones on the
website and I think maybe better especially for a westy used for camping and
ventures on rough roads. I have a theory that since all the Microbuses come
stock in SA with the mudflaps I got from James, (at least as of 1999) the
ones on the accessory site are for those who wish to remove the stock flaps
and dress up their bus a bit--or to dress up the Caravelle. As James says the
flaps he has are "bulletproof". In fact if you watch the Zapprutter film,
alright I'm kidding about the film.
But the mudflaps I have contour to the body lines of the low rear of the
fender and go up underneath and inside the wheel well. Meaning where the
mudflaps on the SA site add mudflappage to the the outside of the vehicle the
ones I have cover that area--protecting the paint outside--and also extend
under the wheel well.
Alright this is getting silly.
I'm looking to mount the flaps today or in the next few days. I think James
is taking some photos of the mudfllaps he has and maybe after I mount mine up
I'll swing by his place and he can take some photos of them mounted if he
hasn'r mounted a set yet on his bus. (I mean I could work on posting photos
but my camera isn't exactly digital and no scanner etc.)
I hope that confused things a bit more.
