I am seeking the advice/wisdom of the list regarding experiences with trucking companies.

I last week purchased a new 1.9 TD engine and along with the purchase paid for shipping. The engine has now arrived at Consolidated terminal about 30 miles from the destination to which I paid shipping.

Upon contacting the company to check if it arrived I was told, yes it was there. I was then asked if I had a chain to drag it from the back of a semi-trailer, ans NO. Then if I want to pick up at terminal? No, I have no truck.

I asked that it be delivered by a truck with lift gate so it can be put on my driveway, company says it has no lift gates. Suggested that I rent a truck to pick up at their terminal where they would load it.

Then they suggested I round up enough friends to handle the 400'# plus pallet. No. I do not live in an area where this is feasable during delivery hours.

They said they would contact shipper to see if he would pay additional charges. I phoned shipper and gave then a heads up so I do not think this will happen.

Shipper did say contract did provide that they could consign part of delivery to other trucking companies.

Since I paid for delivery to my zip code I think the trucking company is responsible for delivery and safe unloading at my destination address.

Any/all experiences suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,

Harry Patrick
