Subject: Latest on Michelin MXT's (my search)...
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

With regard to purchasing (4) Michelin MXT's in 205-70R14 size:

Sears wants $105/tire plus all the installation charges. Special order. $560 total.

Wheel Works wants $93/tire plus installation charges. Special order. $505 total.

Costco wants $98/tire, but all installation charges/road hazard etc. are included. If I wanted to waive installation, the tires would be $89/each. They have to special order the tires from Michelin, as expected, and it was only when I pressed the sales clerk to search for them on his computer that they were found. Ordinarily, Costco doesn't even list an "MXT" for any vehicle, let alone the Vanagon, nor do they list any Load "C"-rated or reinforced tire for the van. Although rebates have been offered in the past, currently this is not the case, but their price is still the best. The MXT's are $425 total.

Looks like Costco will be the lucky vendor. The one near me has the tire business in a separate building, so it seems like it will be a more convenient transaction, too. No long lines to stand in.

Thanks to all who provided moral support. Although these are expensive tires, I feel that they are the correct choice for my Westfalia, and that I have found them at as good a price as I can.

Dan
