Let me also chime in for 20W50 and Mahle/Mann filters. I run this year-round, including Pennsylvania winters (often down to singe digits °F).

The filters do not need to be from the dealer. I got my last batch from Jim DiGennaro when on his way to a VW show for less than $4 each. I believe the Bus Depot has these as well.

FWIW, this 2.1 engine just flipped over 200K. Oil pressure is at least RPM/100 in psi (i.e. > 20psi @ 2000RPM) when hot. I really like having an analog gauge.
