FYI, 1.8T's are already showing up since they've been in Audi A4's since 1996 and Passats since 1998 (late 97)... I've seen numerous conversions of 1.8T's into other vehicles (A2's, A3's mostly)... should bolt right up theoretically the same way as a 2.0 conversion kit would. If kept stock, it's an extremely reliable 155 ft/lbs of torque and if you change the computer programming (which controls turbo boost) you can reliably make 210ft/lbs of torque and if you go the route most Passat owners do, you can get it to 195hp and 240ft/lbs with only computer modifications... Nice! Would make a Vanagon 2x as fast :) Also, turbos are already getting cheap... people often worry about burning out a turbo, but the rebuilds are down to about $300 and percentage-wise, very very few have gone out and the majority of those were factory defective in the first place.
