Yup - from reading the list, you would think VW made our vanagons out of crystal. Just keep in mind that people don't generally post to the list saying "Hey, my van is running like a dream this week - what am I doing wrong?"

FWIW - My van has needed less than $250 in maintenance (other than gas & oil) in the last year. That is for a clutch disc that I burned (responsibility taken) one temp sensor o-ring (.59) and the fuel tank rebuild.

Now the year before... well, it consisted of fixing 10 years of casual ownership.
