Well, as I see it conversions are for people like you. But that said, there could come a time when you can't do you're own work... like my condition right now... torn rotator cuff... haven't been able to turn a wrench for 6 months... ouch!

But I think most of out on the list don't have the skills or the time to build our own conversion. That means we are left with finding someone who will. Okay, so you find a local mechanic who will do the work. But what do you do if you have a problem with the engine on a long trip... ? Like you said not every mechanic will work on a Boxer... And putting in a conversion further limits the chances of finding some one to work on it.

I guarantee you no dealer will work on a conversion. And most mechanics will look at it and not want to take the chance of getting bogged down in figuring out something new. Especially if you put in a non VW engine.

But, hey.... everyone makes their choices as best they can.
