Probably the coolant temp ground wire...there are two temp sensors mounted in the thermostat housing, one for the ECU and one for the gauge. Each should have two wires attached...the gauge one appears to be the one that points forward through the firewall and may take an Act of God (or maybe coming from underneath?) to reach.
