Hey Volks, Thanks for all of your input on my lifter adjustment question. I've decided to go ahead and adjust them before the trip. I will have the assistance of one of the finest air-cooled mechanics in town, although he hasn't worked on too many (maybe one other than mine) Vanagons. But at least he knows what a lifter looks like, which is more than me. So, I have a few new questions. When doing this procedure, will I lose a lot of oil? I'm planning on starting the ATF/MMO today and drive for a few weeks before I have the time, parts, and help to do the lifters. I don't think that I'll get 1000 miles in in that short of a time. How crucial is it to run the MMO for 1000 miles? Thinking that it would be a good time to change the oil with the adjustment. Should I consider putting in new push rods too? The spring loaded kind. Will I have to bleed the coolant system afterwards? This seems like a really dumb question to me, but I just had to ask. Please be kind. Considering my ignorance of what a lifter looks like, does, and where it belongs, does anyone know of any good sites that explains this lifter adjustment? Maybe even have some picts? Tom, Ken, David, ...??? Anyone??? TABIA (Thanks A Bunch In Advance) Peace - donna '84 Westy (Pepe) |
