was 'rear brake question' Stuck brake drum syndrome is all too common. BTDT. Never again on my westy. It's easily avoidable, all it takes is a little preventative action. Before installing the new drum on the hub, spray paint the surface (on the drum) that mates with the hub. Use high heat engine type enamel. Also apply a liberal amount of "Anti -Seize Compound" on the hub surface, where it contacts the drum. Make sure to use a compound that will not liquefy if exposed to high temps. You don't want to mess up the brakes. The stuff that works the best for me is called: LM 508 Anti Seize Compound Part No.2012 made by liqui moly GMBH in Ger. and sold through most vw flaps. Also useful for other high heat applications, like exhausts. Dare to say 'no' to stuck drums. Harald 90 westy The Gunnings wrote: > Had the same problem w/ my 85.
