I am assuming you still have the stock oilcooler. if not well this should serve as a reminder of a weak link in our diesels. remove and check the oilcooler under the filter. these are very often the cause of a unnecessary engine overhaul. they stress with heat/cool cycles and the pressures inside force the oil (60 psi) into the water (15 psi) do not rule out this bandit. you can usually swap a vw parts guy for the removal as he would probably be skeptical of it's fault. and then have no idea why a rebulit engine still leaks oil in the water ( must be a bad head) and scrapps a good engine. P-mail me if you need more detailed info on checking this. but to remove and loop the waterlines (to each other)from it then run engine and see if after a minute oil comes out the exposed water ports.
