Subject: Stuck Horn
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

Hi,

My '90 Vanagon is running perfectly, and I was just about to say so since our recent thread reminding us that positive comments are sometimes needed on this list. Now, in order to punish me for saying that, my van is demanding attention like a three-year-old: It is displaying the "stuck horn" syndrome. It randomly sticks in the "on" position regardless of the position of the steering wheel. Pulling on the button doesn't seem to help either. I noticed in the Bentley that there is no horn relay! (No horn relay! That's almost as intelligent as having no headlight relay!) Therefore, the only culprit can be the horn button, the slip-ring contacts on the steering column, or frayed insulation anywhere on the wire to chasis ground. Is this a common occurrence? If so, where is the best first place to look?

Thanks, Michael Townsend
