The "W10" maintenance/inspection service was similar to the service listed in the last pages of the Bentley but much more comprehensive since then there wasn't the "blind" industry/gov't insistence to extend maintenance intervals that we see today. As a young VW technician I attended a VW school and performed W10 service on type 1, 2 & 3 vehicles, ALL with age related defects and each technician had to ferret out those areas needing additional service.

I know the "Conversionauts" disagree but the VW design & engineering of the wasserboxer has been tested for perhaps a million kilometers without the so-called Vanagon nightmares. The "secret" is that during field testing, FULL maintenance is done absolutely on schedule and by trained technicians. When one belt or hose has reached the end of it's life they are ALL replaced. Had Ron's Vanagon received a cooling system pressure test and visual inspection last time in the shop, he may have never had to deal with the grossly undertrained and incompetent "European auto specialists".

I believe I still have a copy of the old W10 routine but I would have to dig it out and mail you a copy. Consulting the VW dealer is pointless since they have long since gotten rid of the entire W10 philosophy and the trained technicians who carried out the last true VW "Preventive maintenance".
