Hello,

        My 1980 Vanagon will not accelerate, it has no power.  The engine
will rev up fine when in the shop.  But as the engine gets a load on it, she
runs out of breathe.  In first gear, it will accelerate fine up until about
3500 rpm, after that, it stops accelerating.  I have checked:  fuel
delivery, spark, timing and catalytic converter.  I have adjusted the
valves.  I have replaced all questionable vac hoses.  I put on a different
air box.  Both pass the manuals test for resistance readings.  But they both
briefly have an open circuit as you move the air meter's arm when I test the
terminals that the manual says to use.
Is there anything that I am missing?
