Someone a while back made up some "boat type" plaques out of laminated plastic - I thought this was a pretty neat idea, but I don't remember who it was that did it. These are the little badges that you see labeling everything on boats - they are made by sandwiching white plastic under colored plastic, then cutting a design into the top layer so that the white shows through.

I was thinking about this myself last weekend, since my LED panel is also starting to lose its paint...
