I've heard (and tend to believe) the same things about the ENGINE stuff. Can't feel good about putting particulate in there.

The tranny additive, is top-notch. To my understanding, it doesn't rely on the idea of "bonding" to the metal, as much as it works as little slip-sheets of Teflon(r) between metal parts. Since tranny tolerances are higher, and most of the bearings are splash-lubricated rollers, rather than pressure lubed sleeves (or shells), the particulate/filtration issue is pretty mute.

I first used it in a 091 that had lost the 1&2 syncro. For all intents and purposes, 1st and second were gone. You couldn't even get into them with the motor off. It was an emergency (on a cross country trip with five folks) and believe it or not, after adding the Slick 50, we were able to gingerly get into 1&2 enough to get us to CA and back. I've used it ever since.

Our 1982 went from being clunky and difficult to being smooth (though still a little slow) and predictable. Our Jetta has nearly 200k on it, and shifts like new, quick and predictable. I can't attribute all this to the Slick 50, since I change my fluids, have linkages rebuilt, and keep things pretty tidy. But it seems to help enough to justify the paltry $8.00.

Let me know what you find,

My Agenda: Stop Suburban Sprawl. My Methods: Revitalize older, highly-dense, urban towns. Champion mass/rapid transit and fast Internet service to these towns. Demand replacement of archaic, "separationist" zoning laws with neo-traditional dense/mixed use zoning. The Result: All Americans obtain superior living opportunities; sprawl is restrained; and dense, beautiful, interlinked towns become our children's inheritance. Find out more at http://www.cnu.org

Matthew,

I have heard a lot of negative things about Slick 50 for engines, and also that synthetic oil interferes with Slick 50's bonding to the metal in an engine.

I realize things are different in a transmission, am curious as to your comments about that scenario.
