All you who have responded has been great and lots more info. I will save your E-addresses and update info as I work on this project this winter. I prefer to weld and jig in the winter (nice way to keep warm) I will also post to the lists. Unfortunatley I don't feel the front will handle a winch (without modifications to YOUR front end) as the stock bolts are quite small. But I also haven't tried to remove one with a 6000# winch yet. we'll have to wait and see how the protos hold up. But the rear looks promising.

thanks tim looks similar to my ideas, but I like to fill the gaps with aluminum diamond plate. the 2 "hitch is a standard idea for front and rear on all my bumpers, even my baja bug. (nothin erks me more than non-functional bumpers a tricycle can dent.) BTW those rims are the same I am using on my baja, running vanagon bearing carriers and rear disc brakes. Also try this site for a good look of a tire carrier http://home.t-online.de/home/hartmut-guenther-gp/syncrobd.htm But I want it to be supported from the bumper. I don't wanna alter the body that cannot be reversed. who knows some day these may be classics and worth more with a cheesy crome bumper that couldn't stop a red flyer wagon.

Hey Dan -- not sure if you've seen either of these links. Both look pretty promising for what you are proposing.

http://www.tiico.com/images/Van_Back.jpg http://www.cycoactive.com/urabus/urabus_dickwheels.html (an add for dick's wheels, but you can see a nice shot of the bumpers about half way down (and on other pages on the site).

I'm not sure what you have planned in the way of bumpers, but what you've said sounds good. BTW, a receiver hitch on the rear would be a must (not so much for towing, but for hitch bike racks and platforms and the like...).

Thanks much. Tim King Seattle, WA 87 Syncro Westy
