It may be time to consider if people would pay the same big bucks for a converted westie as they would for one that has a motor that can't be trusted to across with country with a major rebuild. I would gladly pay as much for a good conversion, it wouldn't matter to me if it were an inline 4 or a Subie, the issue is simple, do I want a van that will climb the grade from Ventura to Thousand Oaks on Highway 101 without having to stay in the slow lane in 2nd gear or take the drive from Estes Park to I 70 in Colorado? Yes, I would and if that takes a conversion to do then I would do it. The continuing flame war about my daddy is better than your daddy is a real drag, it is fast approaching the tire or battery crusade. If you want to convert your Vanagon then do it, if you don't then don't but neither side is going to change the mind of the other so give it rest.
