Hard to tell if your symptoms match mine. Sounds similar.

I just had the VW AFM harness modification done. Fixed my bucking problem on mt passes.

There's lots in the archives on how to roll your own capacitor hack.

I just completed a trip to Yellowstone and back, driving lots through the mountains. I had a funny power loss problem two times.

After driving a long downhill, where the engine was not really doing much but idling, then starting up a climb, then engine would have a serious power loss, to where I had to pull over to the side of the road. Revving the engine, it sounded like it was missing, not running on all cylinders, or just not getting the right fuel/air mixture.

In both cases, turning off the engine and restarting it cured the problem. Seems like the ECU got out of wack and restarting it caused it to reset and function correctly.

Does anybody know what might be happening? Do I need to do something about it or is restarting enough? I searched the archives and saw a technote on a malfunctioning wiring harness (Digifant harness & Bucking Technote). Could this be the problem?

Thanks. -- Tim Wise '87 WWW, Windrider
