I think this system, or a similar header system, is installed on my '87 Westfalia. It's a 4-into-1 header and low-restriction muffler. There is provision for a catalyst in the stock location, so it's legal.

I bought my camper this way, and I can't compare it to stock, having not driven a stock wbx, but my engine makes good low-end power, and it has a slightly more aggressive exhaust note to it.

I believe that these systems are also a bit less expensive than stock exhuast systems, but you might try some vendors to see.
