Try my trick.

Loosen (don't remove) the screws that hold down the circuit board. put the tip of a flat screwdriver between the circuit board and the edge of the AFM body and gently twist. You'll move the circuit board a millimeter or so. Tighten the screws, and the pickup will be on a slightly different track. This should be good for a while, and you can start putting aside $s for a new AFM.

If this doesn't fix your problem, most likely the problem is elsewhere.
