Subject: Spotted a I-4 conversion for sale
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

Hi volks, Just saw an '82 diesel converted to I-4 westy for sale parked on the side of the road. Talked to the owner. He lowered the price to $4,750 ob. '82 diesel converted to '96 jetta with 50k. Ohio lic. plates. Phone 360-705-9812 Olympia, Washington state

Impression I had of the vanagon: Frame solid, some rust through on the front above the bumper. Van appears to have been repainted (brown). Had some scrapes. Skylight missing. Opening closed with a board. Camping interior looks pretty good. Had both tables. Interior wasn't abused. Fiberglass poptop from outside has some rivets or fasteners in it. Don't know why. Poptop seal hanging down. Plastic covers for utility hookups cracked. Tires looked like passenger tires. Needs tlc.

Engine compartment looked dirty. Engine has surface rust. But owner claims engine is from a '96 Jetta. Custom-made intake manifold. Air filter behind right tail-light. Owner says van can go 80 mph, and cruises comfortably at 65 mph. Had him start up the motor. Motor didn't idle when cold, so he had to rev it up pretty high to let it warm up. I didn't drive the van. No time right now. Some people were interested in buying the westy, but were talked out of the purchase by local mechanics who don't want to work on conversions. Now you know what I know. I'm not the owner, and have no financial interest in this at all. Only passing it on, in case someone wants to have a look at a conversion. Harald '90 westy
