Subject: Added info on Quantum TD FS, and Westy baking tips.

I should have mentioned the Quantum TD of course comes with a Bentey factory manual covering the car and the Turbo Diesel engine, and original owners manuals etc.

See original post below, and http://www.cs.jhu.edu/~jager/vw/Quantum/QuantumTD85.html

Now for tip of the week: ========================

How can you enjoy delicious baked food in the Westy? We bought and tested an "Outback oven" made by travelling light in Colorado. It comes with a 10" baking pan, heat diffuser, thermometer, cover and an aluminized hood made of fiberglass cloth to keep the heat in and the outside cool.

Heat diffuser goes on top of westy stove, pan on top of that and cover and fiberglass dome over that. There is a hole in the dome to see the thermometer.

We have tried baking bread, lasanga and pizza. Works great. The whole thing weights only about 2lbs and all parts stows inside the 10" baking pan (which just fits into the Westy sink for washing). The pan also doubles as frying pan if one gets the optional handle. Cost: $35 on sale at REI.

More reports as we bake more things...

Cheers, Martin

Quantum Turbo Diesel FS. Drive it or convert your Vanagon.

Hi,

I'm switching to biking for commuting (moved to within a few miles of work) and I'm selling my Quantum Turbo Diesel. Could be a comfortable and inexpensive (40MPG!) commuter for someone who doesn't need to drive the latest and hottest.

Alternatively the engine can be transferred to your Vanagon or Westy. Also lots of the extras (Quantum GL was the top model in the VW lineup) can be transferred to your Vanagon or Westy:

These would go easily into the Vanagon:

* Turbo Diesel engine with the longitudinal style manifolds. Fits with VW stock Vanagon D motor mounts (unlike Jetta/Golf and later B3 Passats)

* 4x Power window motors, mechanisms and 6x switches * Cruise * 5x power locks, incl trunk/hatch * Tachometer * Premium VW/Blaupunkt Heidelberg sound system.

Someone handy could also try to plumb in the Quantum AC. (Looks like the compressor would fit with the Quantum mounts, but need figuring out condensor and evaporator plumbing). Has power mirrors. Wiring and switches can transfer to the Vanagon, but you need the Vanagon style mirrors.

Many other accessories and parts also work in the Vanagon D (Alternator, vaccum pump, blower ... etc, etc...

For pictures and more details check:

http://www.cs.jhu.edu/~jager/vw/Quantum/QuantumTD85.html

Asking $850

Note: I don't have time to part it myself so don't ask for individual parts.

I'm in town (for a change) this weekend and the beginning of next week. I'm located in Baltimore, MD near Johns Hopkins University. (By car: just off I83 or Balt/Wash DC commuter train: Near Woodberry light rail station (we live in the Woodberry forest area))
