Well, you've convinced me!
Thanks to so much encouragement from those who have dared used their Vanagon
AC and lived to drive another day, I may have overcome Fear of  Max Cool.
Now if anyone would care to venture a guess as to why my '85, known to
suffer from occassional IPLS, is almost certain to lose power when the AC is
on--even if it has been months since the last attack of the dreaded IPLS.
Just a bit more grist for the IPLS theory mill...
