Subject: crank case breather

Hello listees, I have several questions about my crankcase breather that ties into the rubber intake boot. I have a new (2500 miles) engine, and a new intake boot. There is already oil residue in the boot. Should this be?

Also, I am hooking up a bypass oil filter. Can I drill and tap into the crankcase breather and let the oil run back down into the case or is there a better place to return the oil back into the case?

TIA Myron Lind 81 Westy
