Those leak detectors, as they are called, merely are an oily substance that allows you to see where in the system that their is a leak. Most likely, it is somewhere where the hoses meet a condenser, compressor, evaporator, etc., or could be a leak in one of those components as well. If it is a slow leak, the leak detectors may take some time (days, weeks) to work out the void. Most likely could be the o-rings that are between the compressor and the hoses.
