Interesting thread. My recently purchased '86 Vanagon GL oil pressure sensor buzzer and light alarms intermittantly only once the engine temperature rises above the midpoint of the temperature gauge (ie when driving in stop and go traffic here in the SF Bay area!). If I drive in third gear and drop my speed such that the engine's rpm's drop below 3,000 and then attempt to accelerate back up, the alarm is actuated. If I downshift and run the rpm's back up, the alarm goes off.

I would appreciate any help in figuring out this behavior!

Thanks!

Harry

Sounds like you have a sensor failure. There is a pressure switch at the very back end of the engine at the very back end of the van right down on bottom of the block just under the crankshaft pully. I had one of these to fail. Just unscrew it, and install a new one. Not expensive, but a PITA to get to, but you can get to it from up top. Don't have to get under the van. The other switch is located between the push rod tubs on the right side of the engine. It is a bit more problimatic to get to, but can be done.

Hope this helps a bit.

Good Luck.
