OK here it goes. My 80 vanagon has a terrible knock! This occured after it sat for a couple days. (Back in July 11) Had the heads done in Nov 99. I took some advice from the list and replaced a couple of supposed bad lifters, I might have changed the wrong ones, because its still knocking. Now, is there a way to tell where the bad lifter (if that is the case) is located? I tried listening with a stethascope (SP) even a huge screwdriver, but I can't tell where the knock is coming from. If I do a compression check, would the reading tell me which hyd lifter is bad? I haven't tried the ATF/MMO trick yet, but I need advice. I can't see the forest because of the trees. Its also too hot in Sacramento to be outside wrenching on the van. TIA, Rick
