Getting ready to do a Tune up on the Syncro, and I am curious about people's opinions of spark plugs. I have always used the Platinum plugs in my other VWs, but it seems like there are a lot of choices for the Vanagon... I have read Robt. Lilley's posts about the quad-tipped Bosch plugs; there also seems to be tri-electrode plugs, platinum plugs, and regular old Bosch green plugs. Anyone have any strong evidence that one is better than the rest? There certainly seems to be a big difference in price, though over the course of 30,000-50,000 miles ends up being pretty trivial. Also - any other tune-up advice or tidbits? This will be my first DIY tune-up for the Syncro, in preparation for a couple of late-summer camping trips (and Syncro Safari!) I have all the necessary tools for a typical tune-up - anything unusual I might need? Oh, also - this reminds me - I posted a request for articles recently for www.vanagon.com - if anyone has tune-up tips in the form of an article, I will shoot pictures while I do my work and post the article to www.vanagon.com. (Coyote just posted a nice article on Syncro tire rotation written by Bill Davidson. It is located in the /Syncros/technica section Brent Christensen '89 GL Syncro Westy "Klaus" Santa Barbara, CA |
