Subject:      Deteriorating plastic trim

Like many of you, I have found many interior trim parts are deteriorating,
becomeing brittle and getting scratched very easily.  I know that ArmourAll
and similar products may look good at first but tend to accelerate the
deterioration.  So what to do?
I have tried smearing a very thin coating of petroleum jelly on one area and
it looks much better.  But, is it safe?  Anyone have comments or other suggestions?
