Subject: Heater not stopping problem #
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII

Hello Volks,

My front heater doesn't stop heating even with the valve closed. I suspected it's the cable/lever tolerances but someone on this list said it's the plastic heater valve that's been deformed over the years and now doesn't fully close the coolant fluid from getting to the heater core. He also said it's relatively easy to replace, after removing the spare tire (mounted beneath the vehicle at the front). I've seen this valve at the Bus Depot for only $6.50, so the question is it really so easy for a shade tree mechanic (i.e. no lift, actually not even a shade tree, I'd call it a "parking lot mechanic"...:-) Until I get my bently in the mail (this could take a while, because I'm overseas), I would like to know if there's some description or even pictures on the web of the procedure (or if it's a single page scan of the bently,

maybe some kind soul would be willing to help...:-) And maybe even before I start this kind of operation (with possible complications due to fracture of the coolant hoses connected to this valve and new leaks):

1. Is there a method to determine whether it's the heater valve or the cable/lever tolerences?

2. Is there a place I can "pinch" the heater hose somwhere along the path to stop cooking myself (even with the A/C running full blast, I can feel the hot air in the footwell, even with all flaps fully closed. The air leakage is

significant).

Cheers, T-man

(P.S.: appologies if this response came rather late, as I'm practically swamped with incoming mail...)
