We have a 1990 Vanagon MultiVan. We used to have a 1970 air-cooled bus.

When we had the air-cooled 'Buster the Bus,' we would start from Seattle to make the 300 mile trek to Spokane to visit parents. About 10 miles from Spokane, the heater would finally start heating. No chance of falling asleep at the wheel when the temperature inside the bus was 35°.

I'm willing to forego a spiritual connection with my vehicle in order to have air-conditioning, heat, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, comfortable seats, a great sound system, a quieter cab (but not by much), etc.

Our Vanagon is dependable, comfortable, utilitarian transportation. We have never named it. If I had enough money, I'd love to have a split-window bus from the 60's to restore, but I wouldn't give up my Vanagon.
